What is the Lodge Assistance Program? The Lodge Assistance Program makes available a section's extensive resources to help the lodges of the section. With the section's help, lodges will be able to provide better service to their councils and fulfill the requirements of the Quality Lodge Recognition program.
The assistance program encompasses two major elements, lodge visits by a section assistance team and use of the council of chiefs meetings to provide training. Through a system of evaluation and review, lodge leaders are able to interact and learn from experienced Arrowmen within the section. The lodge visits help identify the resources, training and guidance that lodges require to ultimately increase the service they provide to their councils.
Sections gain first hand knowledge of lodge strengths through the onsite visits. This in turn enables the section to prepare programs to meet the needs of the lodges, and provide them through conclave training and council of chiefs discussions and presentations. The Lodge Assistance Program uses the resources of the section to improve and strengthen the lodges. A task force has been established promote, evaluate and determine a best-methods approach of doing things for the lodge.
Goals and Objectives:
- Oversight and promotion of the Lodge Assistance Program throughout the Sections of the Northeast Region.
- Working with the Section Vice Chiefs, encourage and ensure participation in the Lodge Assistance Program.
- Prepare a Northeast Region summary of the LAP reports at the end of the year, highlighting a best methods approach to visitations and COC training, needed improvements in the program, and where the program should continue on in the future.
- Review and suggest recommendations on how to improve the Lodge Assistance Program process, forms, etc.
- Maintain a master Regional digital file of all the reports, to be submitted to the Region Key Three and National Order of the Arrow Committee at the end of the year.
- Periodic submission of copies of the reports to National Director Clyde Mayer and the Regional and Sectional Operations subcommittee of the National Order of the Arrow Committee.
- Analysis of the reports to determine what specific action, if any, the Region should take to improve the quality of our lodges.
If a Section is primarily responsible for Lodge Assistance Program implementation, why is the LAP featured on the Northeast Region OA web site? The Northeast Region Order of the Arrow aims to maintain a Lodge Assistance Program page to facilitate the exchange of ideas between Sections in their separate implementations. This is a relatively new program - it was unveiled at the 1999 National Leadership Summit. The program has taken on many different approaches and methods since its inception. Many of these different methods are discussed annually at the Section Officers' Seminar, but the discussion should not stop there. It is a goal of this website to serve as a resource to all Section Vice Chiefs in the implementation of this program.
