In mid-September at Camp Alpine, NJ, roughly 100 Arrowmen took a pledge to Challenge the Ordinary during one of the premier leadership events the Northeast Region has to offer; the Gathering of Leaders (GOL). During the event, section officers and advisers took part in various team building activities - all while collaborating with their counterparts around the region.
Activities during the GOL included section role specific training, recreation time and team building exercises. 2015 National Vice-Chief, Donnie Stephens, served as an invited guest and who also presented a module on the topic of the Order of the Arrow’s new LINK Program. This session discussed what areas of the Journey to Excellence Program our region can improve on specifically and what we’ve already been doing well with. “This year's GOL was one of the best I've seen yet. Its theme, ‘Challenge the Ordinary,’ fell perfectly in line with a broader theme of 2016--that the success of the Order of the Arrow in its second century lies entirely in our ability to innovate and refusal to accept the status quo”.
Throughout the long weekend, section representatives from the Northeast Region took part in various classes to help build their bond, both as Arrowmen and young leaders. Chris Boyle, Northeast Region Chief, orchestrated this weekend successfully and with help by his many staff members, including past section, region and national officers.
